Personalised Christmas ornament maker

A name on a star, a bauble, a tree or a heart, sized for your tree and ready to print in two colours. The name is fitted to the shape automatically, so a long one never runs off the edge.

Just one project? A 7-day Pro pass is €4.99, no subscription.

Four 3D printed Christmas ornaments — a star, a bauble, a tree and a heart — each with a raised name in a second colour

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose the shape

Bauble, star, snowflake, heart or tree. Each is a flat ornament that prints on the bed without supports.

  2. 2

    Type the name

Up to 16 characters in any font from the catalogue. The letters are raised from the face and sized to fit the shape, and the face under them is kept solid.

  3. 3

    Add the details

Size from 25 to 200 mm, thickness from 2 to 20 mm, a pierced pattern such as stars or dots, and a hanging loop with a hole from 2 to 12 mm for ribbon or a hook.

  4. 4

Download in one or two colours

STL for one colour, or 3MF with the name as a separate object, so a multi-colour printer — or a filament change — prints it in gold on red.

A gift that takes minutes

A named ornament is the classic small Christmas gift: one for every child in the family, for teachers, for a first Christmas or for guests' places at the table. Printing them yourself means every name is right and nobody is left out.

Because every size and name is a setting rather than a separate file, a whole family set takes minutes: change the name, download, repeat.

Bauble
A round disc — the most room for a long name.
Star
Five points, hung from the top point.
Tree
Three tiers, a classic silhouette for short names.
Heart
For a first Christmas, a couple or a keepsake.
Snowflake
Six points, lovely pierced in white or clear.
Pierced patterns
Stars, dots and other patterns cut through, kept clear of the name.

Printing two colours

The raised name is a separate body, so the ornament prints in two colours on a printer with a multi-material unit. On a single-nozzle printer, add a filament change at the layer where the letters begin: the base prints in one colour, the name in the next.

Print flat on the bed, face up. A 0.2 mm layer height, three or four perimeters and 15–20% infill suits almost everything here, and none of it needs supports when printed flat on the bed. Glitter, silk and glow-in-the-dark filaments all make good ornaments.

Questions

How long can the name be?

Up to 16 characters. Longer names are made smaller to fit the shape, so for a star or a tree a short name or a nickname looks best; a bauble has the most room.

Can I print it in one colour?

Yes. Download the STL and the name prints raised in the same colour, which still reads well, especially in a light filament.

Which size should an ornament be?

Between 60 and 90 mm across suits most trees. Smaller ornaments, around 40 mm, make good gift tags; larger ones suit a door or a window.

Which plan includes ornaments?

Ornaments are one of the 3D object types in the Pro plan. If you only need this year's set, a 7-day pass covers it.
